Mystic Tan lotion meter - Upgrades
Thrust bearing -
Mystic tan has recently upgraded their meters through the incorporation of a thrust bearing, aimed at removing the axial thrust that is placed on the gearmotor drive. The bearing is separately housed and mounted on the stationary plate. The bearing supports the screw drive via it's retaining set screw. The flexible coupling has been removed and the gearmotor lowered to allow a direct mechanical connection to the bearing.

This arrangement has a secondary advantage of increasing rigidity in the drive screw. This reduces the side loading on the cylinder rods. Compromises have been made however with the flexibility in the drive coupling.
It is interesting to note that although the bearing assembly is flanged on one side, retention in the opposite direction is relied upon an interference fit. Variances in fit will effect the integrity of the bearing assembly.
